  • Mediation is an alternative dispute resolution process that is a voluntary, confidential and efficient method to help parties resolve their disputes through a neutral third person (a mediator). R. T. Willis has been specially trained to be a mediator in Harris County and will use a variety of techniques to open communication between the parties to a case.

Mediation is one of the most frequently used methods of negotiating a property or custody agreement in Texas divorce cases. Harris County courts are bogged down with cases. Mediation oftentimes leads to a settlement without ever having to go to trial saving judges and courts time. Most courts in Harris County require mediation and sometimes there are more than one required mediation in a case.

Mediation is confidential, there’s no public record of what goes on in your sessions (as opposed to a public courtroom where a record of all proceedings is made).

    R. T. Willis also works as a mediator in Family Law and other Civil cases. He can be hired by individuals wanting to come to a mutual, non-adversarial agreement in divorces or other civil matters, or he can be hired to facilitate mediations whereby you and your attorney are present with the opposing party and their attorney.

During the mediation process, you and the opposing party will be placed in separate rooms and the attorneys will meet with the mediator to discuss the issues requiring mediation. Then the mediator will meet with each of you separately so that you can give the mediator your opinions and positions in private. He will then visit each room separately to discuss the issues and work to resolve these issues. Once an agreement is reached, a Mediated Settlement Agreement (MSA) will be prepared and signed by both parties. Both parties will be required by the court to abide by the MSA.
